What is the WFF Quality Mark

The Worktop Fabricators Federation Quality Mark is a scheme intended to raise the health and safety standards across the surface fabrication and engineered stone industry. Work-related ill health affects millions of workers exposed to various types of dust, but especially Respirable Crystalline Silica (RCS).

RCS is a highly dangerous substance and can cause lung complications such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and lung fibrosis known as silicosis. It can also lead to lung cancer.

This Quality Mark has been developed through a collaborative effort between the WFF and the BOHS occupational hygiene research, and establishes a structural framework for adherence to benchmark working practices, compliance to regulation, and greater health for construction and fabrication employees.

What to expect

Our experienced Occupational Hygiene consultants will come to site to carry out the audit. They will produce both the audit itself and a summary report for submission to the BOHS either recommending the award of the WFF Quality Mark, or outlining the actions required to achieve it.

What does the audit involve?

The audit covers several aspects of health, safety, and occupational hygiene, including Workplace Air Monitoring, Noise, HAVS and LEV assessments. It also covers specific observations around best practices for fabrication using engineered stone.

How long does the audit take?

This depends on the number of machines, employee’s, size of the area, number of different processes. Site maps, staff numbers, walk rounds help gain a better picture of the site.
